Olivia Henchy is a visual artist based in Co. Clare. Her work is at the intersection between landscape and abstraction and she takes inspiration from the nature around her, expressing a sensory experience of the landscape.
Having graduated from Limerick School of Art & Design with a BA honours degree in graphic design and postgraduate diploma in art and design education, her early career and training comes through in her work today as a painter. After teaching for several years and taking time out to raise her family she has returned to her own art practice.
———————————
‘Through local hikes near where I live I am energised by endless visual stimuli that surrounds me. My curiosity lies in the visual interplay between the fragility and the resilience of our landscape. Creativity makes it’s way back to the studio where the physicality of the art process aims to mirror nature itself. Burying, unearthing, building up, scraping back with the intent to somehow echo the constant evolution of the landscape over time.
Representational marks and shapes guide to a physical sense of place but primarily my work is a personal response to nature, evoking the honesty and spirituality that I find in the landscape.
